Making candles seems like a pretty simple thing. Some wax, a wick and some oil. Most people don't realize all the testing that goes into one candle. Every time you change an oil, a vessel, a wick, you have to do a 4 hour test. Each oil changes the way a candle burns. Wicks vary depending on the size of the vessel and the type of wax. The percentage of oil can vary with different scents. Sometimes you can test candles 4 or 5 times before you figure out the perfect combination in a vessel. You want to make sure you have a great hot throw and cold throw. You want the candle to burn hot enough to have an even melt without burning too hot. Fire safety is important. You have to test vessels to make sure that they won't crack or shatter with the heat.
There are so many pieces to the pie. All these things take time and energy. So when you purchase a candle from any vendor, keep this in mind. It's not just some wax and a wick...if it is, you don't want it, no matter the price. Buy quality candles.
